Portable humidity collector

Solution

Inspired by nature! Source can be used when you are in need of a safe and portable water source. Whether you are traveling or you do not have access to safe drinking water at home. By using Biomimicry the net is developed from the same principle as spider-webs collect humidity. The net catches the humidity and then the drops fall into the container, making this a drinking water collector. It is molded in silicone and covered with textile, making it foldable and easy to carry.

Project Description

Across the globe we have human need for drinking water. And with global warming our groundwater disappears, it evaporates from the ground and leads to increased humidity. At the same time, there are also many places on earth where there is little groundwater from before, and there are places where the groundwater is very polluted. Therefore, we must utilize our air as a source of water. «Source» does just that.

By using biomimicry and looking at how nature interact with humidity the spider web become a big inspiration to this product. The web of the spider consists of many thin threads that meet in knots. When the air is blowing trough the net, small drops of water accumulate on the net, and then gravity pulls the tiny droplets against the knots where the droplets gather into larger and heavier droplets that finally escape from the net and fall down. This is the principle that has inspired this product.

It is molded in silicone and covered with textile, making it foldable and easy to carry. By using Biomimicry the net is developed from the same principle as spider-webs collect humidity. The net catches the humidity and then the drops fall into the container. From the valve below you can fill your bottle with water, or tie the container together and carry the water in it. The water in the container is cleaned through the changeable filter in the valve.

Product: With its flexible silicone body «Source» can easily be packed and taken on trips. Or, «Source» can be a drinking water source at home. With the hook it can be hanged up in a tree or from a building. When the wind blows through the net, the moist air accumulates on the net. And when the droplets become large and heavy, they fall into the container. The product is constructed with a large opening at the top that allows rainwater to enter the container, but the opening also acts as a vent to cool the container to facilitate condensation.

The container under the net can be removed and twisted together so that you can carry the water in it. The valve at the bottom of the container can easily be taken off so that a charcoal filter pad can be placed inside the valve and clean the water before it comes out and are ready to be enjoyed.
