The project offers a prospect of ethical cohabitation of wildlife and infrastructure. Fluid Roads is a system design proposal, where animals have a right of way and infrastructure adapts. Technology serves as interpreter for non-human agencies, gives them power – to be noticed, speak up for themselves, and be respected by humans. What if instead of deadly barriers, roads become flexible and almost unseen by wildlife?

Project Description

Infrastructures spread out through the world in a monologue of domination. Human need is ultimate and obtrusive and no voice is heard against it. There is no more time to ignore the speechless. Almost invisible, the Others surround us, fighting for existence, enforced to adapt to a rapidly changing human world. Fluid Roads explores a world where technology serves as interpreter for non-human agencies, gives them power – to be noticed, speak up for themselves, and be respected by humans. The project offers a prospect of ethical cohabitation of wildlife and infrastructure. Fluid Roads is a system design proposal, where animals have a right of way and infrastructure adapts. What if instead of deadly barriers, roads become flexible and almost unseen by wildlife? An animated map envisions the choreography of respectful dialog between nature and humanity. Through the animation and illustrations the Others become visible, become subject, gain empathy, and with it – hope.
