[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]Shuttlecock of Friendship is a short animation film created as a spring project <\/span>in<\/span> Kai <\/span>Lappalainen\u2019s<\/span> 3D animation class.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n T<\/span>he film is focused on human-<\/span>animal communication and relations<\/span>. The interaction happens between two characters: a boy and a squirrel. The squirrel is shown as a wild animal, <\/span>not<\/span> as <\/span>a human-like intelligent creature as it often happens in animation, <\/span>even though easier to <\/span>contact<\/span> than normally. <\/span>The<\/span> communication happens without words<\/span>, through gestures and playing. Even though <\/span>the boy needs <\/span>the shuttlecock <\/span>that is stuck on the tree, he doesn\u2019t try to exploit the squirrel and use the animal <\/span>to<\/span> achieve<\/span> his own goal. Instead<\/span>, <\/span>he chooses to make contact, play <\/span>genuinely <\/span>and become<\/span> friends. <\/span>The squirrel is sad and bored in the beginning, maybe <\/span>depressed<\/span>, and obviously needs a friend.<\/span> The boy is always positive and confident even though he has a problem, <\/span>and he is ready to share his positive way of looking at the world with others. <\/span>So,<\/span> when<\/span> he<\/span> notices<\/span> a sad and a bit frightened <\/span>squirrel,<\/span> he decide<\/span>s<\/span> to <\/span>cheer it up though playing, and <\/span>then <\/span>invites the animal to come to him. And the squirrel brings the shuttlecock <\/span>out of<\/span> its <\/span>own <\/span>fre<\/span>e will because it\u2019s now friendly and grateful for playing, and it guessed that the shuttlecock belongs to the boy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>author<\/span> hopes that this <\/span>short film will <\/span>enhance<\/span> positive attitude towards life problems and non-exploitative <\/span>friendly relationships with wild animals among children and adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Software used: Maya (animation and <\/span>modelling<\/span>, rendering<\/span>), Substance painter (characters texturing), Houdini (tree <\/span>modelling<\/span>), <\/span>ZBrush<\/span> (<\/span>boy sculpting),<\/span> After Effects (compositing and video editing).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
